Press Play: Printmaking Show – Cornish Alumni Gallery

Wednesday, February 22, 2024 – For over two decades, my passion for printmaking has thrived, nurtured under the guidance of esteemed mentors like John Overton and Kathleen Rabel during my time at Cornish. Now, it is with immense joy that we present an art show showcasing the diverse talents of our alumni, each contributing to the rich tapestry of printmaking techniques. This exhibition is a testament to the breadth of printmaking, featuring an array of methods such as etching, woodblock, silkscreen, marbling, vitreography, cyanotypes, collagraph, and more. From traditional to contemporary, each piece is a unique exploration of the artistic possibilities within this versatile medium.

Printmaking, with its accessibility through trading, selling, and viewing, stands as the most democratic form of art. It bridges the gap between creator and audience, fostering a connection that transcends the boundaries of the art world.

Cornish College of the Arts has played a pivotal role in revitalizing and sustaining the rich history of printmaking. This exhibition not only pays homage to the roots of this craft but also propels it forward, showcasing how printmaking remains a vibrant and integral genre in contemporary art. In our celebration of printmaking, we highlight its significance as the “unique multiple.” Each print is not a solitary piece but a reproduction that carries with it the spirit of the artist, creating a dialogue between the creator and the audience that is both personal and universal.

Join us in this exploration of printmaking—a journey through time, tradition, and the ever-evolving world of artistic expression.

Opening Reception: Friday, March 1st, 5 – 8pm
