Test Drive Art School

Summer at Cornish is part of Cornish Extension programs, offering students under 17 a specifically Cornish experience. Summer programs give pre-college students a chance to develop their visual and performing art skills. Intensives include the kind of experience our art college students experience as majors. Cornish majors study a wide range of classes to help build the necessary skills for a career in the arts, including specialized college courses in fine art and installation, design, comics, dance, film, music, and musical theater, and more. Summer at Cornish offers the first step toward art school.

Art School Summer Camp at Cornish

For 15 years, hundreds of students have been creating and performing each summer through a variety of classes taught by our region’s best-known practicing artists and esteemed Cornish College of the Arts faculty. Summer at Cornish Intensives are designed for students with all levels of ability, across many different academic disciplines.

Summer at Cornish prepares students for art school and goes beyond a “summer camp.” Our intensives are taught by working professionals committed to mentoring students as they fine-tune the skills they already possess and explore new skills. These intensives prepare students for the practical side of being a working artist and give them a pre-college preview of what they can expect once they dive into college.

But fun is also at the core of this educational experience. Each year returning students enjoy the familiar experience of a community of artists, building friendships, and making art. Summer at Cornish is where many of our young artists begin to build networks of fellow artists, big ideas, and multidisciplinary experiences.

Summer Offerings
Last summer, COVID-19 changed everything and we made the decision to move Summer at Cornish fully remote. With the current dynamic health situation, we chose, like many comparable summer programs, to stay remote again this year. The intensives we are offering were also offered last year and we’ve had a year of remote learning experience to develop interactive synchronous and asynchronous methods to keep our students learning, creating, and performing without online burnout.

Whether you register for a one-week intensive or you’re with us for a full month of creative learning, we are excited to have you with us this summer for our 15th year of Summer at Cornish. With two months left to register, spots are filling up fast. Feel free to reach out with any questions you might have so that we can find the best intensive for you.

Looking forward to Summer!
