M. Colleen Bickel is movement artist, somatic teacher, and physical therapist. Originally from Albuquerque, NM, she obtained her BFA in modern dance from the University of Utah. She danced professionally for Repertory Dance Theatre in Salt Lake City for 5 years before moving to NYC where she continued to perform with a variety of companies. She has performed works by classical modern choreographers (José Limón, Glen Tetley, Martha Graham, Anna Sokolow) as well as contemporary choreographers (Andrea Miller, Zvi Gothiener, Eric Handman, Wade Madsen). While in NYC, she went through the rigorous Romana’s Pilates Training Program and is a Level 5 Pilates Instructor. She has additional training in Myofascial Energetic Length Technique (MELT), Ideokinesis (Irene Dowd), the Franklin Method, Progressive Ballet Technique and the Progressive Pointe Method for point shoe fitting. She spreads her time between treating patients for orthopedic, dance/hypermobility specific, and pelvic floor concerns as well as teaching classical Pilates, Somatics, and injury prevention classes to local dance schools/teachers. She is a certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist with a Spinal Manipulation Endorsement, trained in the ConnectTherapy™ Method, trained in Pelvic Floor by the APTA, trained in the Flavia Morellato Method of Lymphatic Drainage, and has taken classes from the Postural Restoration Institute (PRI). She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, including the performing arts special interest group, as well as SEAPAM (Seattle Dance and Performing Arts Medicine) and IADMS (International Association of Dance Medicine and Science).
