I am an archaeologist and anthropologist specializing in deep-time questions about island Southeast Asia and near Oceania; human-landscape interactions e.g. human response to climate change (and how humans have changed their environment in the past); how we use social networks and other exchange networks to deal with risk; and how and why humans adopt new technologies. I am also interested in the world of complexity science, and how methods like social network analysis and agent-based modeling can illuminate past and future patterns in human behavior. I love international travel, meeting new people, and trying new foods! When I am not in the classroom, I am usually working on a home improvement project, hanging out with my kids, or reading a book while petting one of my giant mutts.
