Photo/Video Intern – Summer 2025

This is a paid internship, range of $22/hr – $39/hr (depending on role and qualifications) for those currently pursuing undergraduate degrees and higher rates for those currently pursuing graduate level degrees.
Tentative 2025 Internship Dates:
- Semester students: May 19th to July 25th
- Quarter students: June 16th to August 22nd
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Sound Transit’s Communications, Marketing and Engagement team is how the public interacts with the agency throughout the Puget Sound region learning about Link, Sounder, ST Express, and Tacoma Link. The Video/photo intern will have an opportunity to be a part of the team that oversees our Photo and Video services and learn how a large regional transit system is managed.
JOB DUTIES:
- Weekly deliverables to agency’s social media team:- Vertically filmed Instagram reels.
– Still pictures.
– 16:9 Video.
– Instagram/Facebook live video feeds when required.
– Other projects and concepts as directed.
- Assist video production team on larger scale shoots.
- Fills in for agency still photographer or acts as second camera for larger events.
- Edits still pictures and video assets as needed.
- Assist with digital asset management. Cataloging, keywording, and backing up files
POTENTIAL PROJECTS:
- Documenting agency preparation for East Link Extension.
- Summer All Hands meeting video support.
- Visual documentation of agency progress.
- Exact projects to be decided as internship progresses.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be a current college student in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited associate, bachelor’s or graduate degree program in Video Production, Communications, Broadcast Journalism, Photojournalism, Filmmaking, Digital Marketing or Social Media, or other non-technical discipline or relevant two-year certificate.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
- Familiarity with principles and practices of video production and still photography.
- Understanding of field audio gathering techniques and lighting.
- Interest in communications/marketing, public policy, and transportation.
- Experience with social media; Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, X (formerlyTwitter), and Bluesky.
- Comfortable working outside of a hybrid office environment with members of the public, on construction sites and in operational maintenance facilities.
- Strong interpersonal techniques in-person, by telephone and via e-mail and a consistent commitment and ability to work with diverse groups and individuals.
- Ability to adapt to changing environments and to work on multiple project teams and subjects simultaneously.
- Access to a cell phone with high quality camera.
- Background using Canon R series or similar level mirrorless camera system.
- Computer based non-liner video editing.
- Still picture editing experience.
- Experience with the Adobe suite.
- Microsoft office tools, Word, Outlook, Power Point, Excel and Teams.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed in a standard office environment.
- Positions working in field may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, physical harm, hazardous chemicals, and/or extreme noise.
