The Operations & Facilities department is looking to hire two (2)  Custodians to join the team. This position, under general supervision of the Custodial Manager, performs a variety of work to maintain buildings, furniture, and equipment to ensure a clean, sanitary, safe and secure condition during an assigned shift. Prioritize daily tasks and follow instructions regarding the safe use of chemicals, supplies and equipment. Maintains the cleanliness and tidiness of all College facilities and exterior spaces in order to facilitate an effective learning environment. This position is represented by OPEIU Local 8.

 Responsibilities

  1. Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
  2. Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
  3. Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
  4. Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked and secured after cleaning areas.
  5. Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels.
  6. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  7. Assists in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.
  8. Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
  9. May provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and may answer basic questions. May report issues with vendors to supervisor.
  10. Assists in resetting of classrooms as needed throughout the school year.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to understand verbal instructions
  • Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment, chemicals, and supplies
  • Ability to use hand and power tools as applicable
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures, including following written instructions to safely use, mix, and dispose/store cleaners, solvents, chemicals, and similar products used in custodial services.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development or equivalent
  • Minimum two year applicable experience or equivalent education and experience
  • Certified in CPR, First Aid and Blood-Borne Pathogens (training provided)
  • Ability to lift between 25-50 lbs and utilize equipment to mobilize heavier objects
  • Must pass background check
  • Willingness to contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or background.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Custodial experience in a not-for-profit, higher education or arts environment

Compensation:      $21.15
Shifts Available:

  • Sunday – Thursday – 5:00am – 2:00pm | 1 position
  • Tuesday – Saturday – 5:00am – 2:00pm | 1 position
