Cornish College of the Arts Announces 2025 Honorary Doctorates

Seattle, WA – January 30, 2025 – Cornish College of the Arts is proud to announce the recipients of its 2025 Honorary Doctorates: celebrated artists Dennis Evans and Nancy Mee. These distinguished individuals will be honored at the Cornish 2025 Commencement ceremony, taking place on Monday, May 5, at Benaroya Hall. 

Dennis Evans and Nancy Mee, renowned both individually and as a creative couple, have made profound contributions to the visual arts. Their works are celebrated for their depth, innovation, and engagement with themes of identity, history, and materiality. Evans’s dynamic explorations in mixed media and Mee’s luminous sculptures exemplify artistic excellence and resonate with audiences locally and internationally. 

Beyond their artistic achievements, Evans and Mee are also dedicated philanthropists. They have generously donated their extensive art collection to Seattle University, ensuring its preservation and accessibility for future generations. Additionally, they have established a scholarship at Cornish College of the Arts to support and inspire emerging artists, further demonstrating their commitment to fostering creativity and education. 

To commemorate this special occasion, Cornish College of the Arts invites the public to an exclusive Artist Talk with Dennis Evans and Nancy Mee on Thursday, April 17th, at 4:30 PM in the Raisbeck Auditorium on Cornish’s campus. This event offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from the artists about their creative journeys, influences, and the role of art in shaping culture. 

About Nancy Mee Nancy Mee is a celebrated sculptor and glass artist whose work blends strength and delicacy. Her creations explore themes of resilience and transformation, often through the interplay of light and form. About Dennis Evans Dennis Evans is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Known for his evocative use of symbolism and text, Evans’s art delves into the complexities of identity and narrative. His career has been marked by numerous exhibitions, and his pieces are held in significant public and private collections. More about his work can be found at Utopian Heights. 

Both Evans and Mee are also committed to supporting the arts and education, making their contributions to the cultural fabric of the Pacific Northwest invaluable. 

Cornish College of the Arts is a nonprofit college in the heart of downtown Seattle, offering a range of undergraduate degrees in the fine arts, including music, theater, visual art, animation, game arts, dance, and design, among others.
