Amy Wheeler is a lifelong theatre artist, educator and nonprofit leader who believes in the power of the arts to connect us, and to build resilient communities through stories that spark empathy and curiosity.

Amy’s plays and musicals are being produced and developed at theatres across the country. She led the renowned nonprofit Hedgebrook for nearly two decades, expanding the organization into a global community of influential female-identified writers who are authoring change in the arts, culture, and social justice spheres. As producer of Hedgebrook’s premier Women Playwrights Festival, Amy curated new work by hundreds of award-winning and emerging playwrights.

Amy has been recognized by Seattle Arts & Lectures with the 2020 Prowda Literary Arts Award her commitment the Pacific Northwest’s community of readers and writers, and by Cornish with an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts for her work with students. She has been selected for an Artist Trust Fellowship to Ireland, and writer’s residencies at Yaddo, Hedgebrook and Tofte Lake Center.

Amy serves on the national board of the Artist Communities Alliance.
