Gretchen graduated with an MFA from Rutgers, Mason Gross School of the Arts in 2001. They have exhibited with the Frye Art Museum and the Seattle Art Museum. They have held residencies with the Bronx Museum of Art and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and created a public program with the Drawing Center in New York. In 2021/2022, they completed a Fulbright Core Scholar research grant, for retracing a family trip in Slovakia, in support of a future creative-non-fiction book.
