Building A Production Pre-College Intensive
Summer at Cornish's production pre-college intensive allows students aiming at college work in the theater to delve deeply into what it means to create and present a work on the stage. This is an amazing opportunity for King County students: generous funders have made this incredible program available to students for only $100!
Taking place in the professional setting of the Cornish Playhouse at Seattle Center, this two-week-long intensive program allows students ages 14 to 18 to work together as a team to bring an original work to life. It all leads to a final production on the Playhouse's Main Stage on July 22.
Participants will be immersed in both the performing and visual arts as part of the course work. Morning classes will be held from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm each day with team production coursework from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Students will come together to create and produce an original work, deciding how they want to address through their art a specific issue relevant to their lives, related to human rights, social justice, or both.
Broadening the experience, students also will attend one live production during the two week period on a field trip as a group with staff and the teaching artists. Guest artists will join the classes to discuss as their careers and how their work relates to the piece being produced.
Summer at Cornish would like to thank its generous funders, Seattle Office of Arts & Culture and US Bank, who have made this intensive possible.
