BFA Exhibition Features First Interior Architecture And Film Graduates

Filling galleries in multiple buildings at Cornish College of the Arts’ downtown Seattle campus, the colleges BFA Exhibition 2017 features works from all graduating seniors in Cornish’s visual arts programs. This joint exhibition opens to the public on April 28. An “industry night” for the Northwest art community will be held April 27 and is by invitation only.

This year’s exhibition includes work from the first graduating seniors in Cornish College of the Arts’ Film+Media and Interior Architecture programs. The BFA program in Film+Media was established in 2014 and Interior Architecture in 2016. The college also grants a BFA in Art and a BFA in Design.

As is typical at Cornish, the show is highly diverse. In Art and Design, the works presented in the exhibition ambitiously explore a breadth of media strategies in the pursuit of new art and new ideas. The seniors’ work features installation, painting, print, performance, photography, digital media, video, sculpture, writing, and UX design.

Interior Architecture students have dived deep into social and civic challenges that they can address with their human centered process. These students are a growing cohort of artist-citizen-innovators who are eager to research, explore, and develop a social and civic-minded approach into how environments and the objects in those environments are shaped.

In Film+Media, students have studied the history of cinema and can conceive, write, produce, direct, light, and edit films that have shape and style. They pushed the boundaries of their art form as will be seen in the installation at Centennial Lab.

The BFA Exibtion 2017 is held in Beebe Building (Design, Interior Architecture) and Centennial Lab (Art, Film+Media) in Cornish’s South Lake Union campus. Examples of the participating seniors’ work can be seen at:
