Poetry & Politics

Class Description

A common refrain heard among poets today is that all poetry is political. Yet many roll their eyes at the idea of “Political Poetry?” In this class, we will explore the various ways in which poetry is political, the reasons why a personal poem can be just as powerful as a poem critical of our systems of power. We will look at how politics exist in poetry both foundational and contemporary, as well as our own poems.
