At this time, this intensive will be held online for summer 2021. Through a mix of synchronous and asynchronous learning, we are structuring our intensives to be creative, fun, and full of activities. If you have any questions about how we are moving to remote learning, please call or email with any questions.
Back to class safely – While we do hope to continue our in-person learning, please note that this learning experience may need to evolve to an online or hybrid learning platform based on the safety regulations and recommendations by the city and state.
Life drawing is a foundational drawing class that will focus on the figure. Students will develop perceptual and conceptual skills through exercises, critiques, lectures, and strong drawing practice. We will be working with a live model every day, working to gain the skill of translating what is observed through the techniques of drawing. Additionally, students will become familiar with contemporary and traditional art history as it relates to the figure. Specific instruction will include: construction of the figure/body, figurative proportion systems including the head and face, and a volumetric understanding of the planes of the body through line and light. Students explore various black and white media, develop visual awareness, and enrich their capacity for observation and self-expression.
The final week of the program focuses on how to present our work and mount an exhibition, culminating in a gallery event and celebration on July 31st. Students, parents, friends and family are invited to tour the gallery exhibition and college fair.
