Introduction to Motion Design & After Effects

Class Description

This course is built as a jumping-on point in motion design, a discipline where you use animation to solve design problems. We’ll be exploring these design and animation principles in Adobe After Effects. The cornerstone of all motion design work is done in After Effects, a program that sits somewhere between photoshop and a non-linear editor. You will learn how to make keyframes, how to use the graph editor, and create dynamic movement without drawing a single frame.

In a creative and encouraging environment, the course will take you through how keyframes work, how to import your own designs into After Effects, how to animate type in a way that guides the viewer’s attention, and how to approach the animation process from a theory-based point of view.

Students do not need to have prior experience in video or design though it is helpful to understand the basics of the pen tool as it’s used in programs like Illustrator, Photoshop, or After Effects.
