Dance History & its Complexities

Class Description
This class meets 2x / week for 4 weeks.
Have you ever wondered about why you do what you do in studio dance classes? This introductory class will investigate why the studio dance forms of tap, jazz, modern, and ballet have distinct values and practices. We will explore how cultural forces and significant figures shaped the practices of each form. Class will include lecture, videos, and collaborative group exercises designed to spark conversation about the complexity of dance history.
Back to class safely – While we do hope to continue our in-person learning, please note that this learning experience may need to evolve to an online or hybrid learning platform based on the safety regulations and recommendations by the city and state.
