Beginner Dance (Ballet, Jazz, Modern)
This class meets 2 x per week for 4 weeks.
Beginner Dance is for students with no previous dance experience or for those returning to dance after several years away. This class emphasizes progressive development of proper technique and body alignment in both Ballet, Jazz, and Modern disciplines. Ballet introduces basic arm and leg positions, the concept of turnout, and developing coordination through simple exercises at the barre and in the center. Jazz class is designed to work on the following concepts: Correct alignment of torso, pelvis, knees, ankles; clarity of line; clarity of movement initiation & completion; syncopated footwork with a direct relationship to the music; quick directional shifts; grounded use of plié; precise musicality; rigorous athleticism; upper body strength training; floor-work; improvisation; performing style with emphasis on individual personality. Modern will focus on the use of torso, on balance off balance, floor work and inversions, move with weight and powerfully through space, and use of breath.
