Advanced Performance Dance Intensive (Audition Required)

Class Description

The Advanced Dance/Performance Intensive offers a unique immersion for students intending to pursue dance in college.   An afternoon block in composition will guide students with the creation of a solo which can be used for college auditions. On days with a longer lunch, seminars on topics such as Nutrition and Anatomy are offered.  A late afternoon block will offer students an opportunity to work with a guest choreographer who will set a new work to be performed on Friday, July 24th at 2:30 PM for the final showing.

Weekly classes include:

  • Monday / Wednesday
    • Conditioning, ballet, pointe, contemporary modern, contact improv, composition class, rehearsal
  • Tuesday / Thursday
    • Contemporary modern, Jazz, hip hop, yoga, composition class, rehearsal
  • Friday
    • Conditioning, ballet, yoga, open comp lab, composition class, rehearsal

Auditions 2020

Audition will consist of 45 minutes of Ballet class followed by 45 minutes of  Contemporary Modern phrase work.

Dress Code for audition

Ballet
Female: solid colored leotard, convertible tights (pink or skin tone), ballet shoes (pink or skin tone).  Pointe shoes are not suggested.  You may opt to wear them for the audition if you are at an advanced level.
Male – solid colored T-shirt or Leotard, Convertible tights (black or grey), Socks (optional) (color of shoes), Ballet Shoes
Non-Binary – either Female or Male options

Contemporary Modern
Female: solid color leotard, solid colored leggings, bare feet (bring socks)
Male: solid colored t-shirt or leotard, solid colored leggings, bare feet (bring socks)
Non-Binary – either Female or Male options

Guidelines: Non-decorative leotards only (ie: no mesh, lace, holes/cutouts, zippers), no halter leotards, no logos, no rips or tears

Video Audition Submission

The audition video should include:

  • Ballet Barre exercises (one side only) — plies/grand plies, battement degage, battement fondu, grand battement
  • Ballet Center floor exercises (one side only) — adagio, pirouettes, petite allegro, grand allegro
  • Contemporary/modern combination, between 2 and 5 minutes

  • intensive you are auditioning for
  • email and phone number

You can also mail a DVD to Summer at Cornish Dance – 1000 Lenora Street -Seattle, WA 98121.

Priority will be given to submissions received by May 1.  Submissions will be accepted until workshops meet maximum enrollment. You will be contacted within one week after receiving your materials notifying you of your acceptance status to the program.

Jazz

Hip Hop

Yoga

Warmups: At the discretion of the instructor, students may wear leg warmers or form fitting sweaters during colder weather
