Marty Jourard
Marty Jourard grew up in Gainesville, Florida where he began playing in rock bands as a teenager. He moved to Los Angeles in 1976 where as a member of The Motels he recorded five albums for Capitol Records, two of which received gold album status (500,000 sold), and included two Top Ten singles (“Only the Lonely,” “Suddenly Last Summer”). As a freelance musician Jourard’s keyboard and sax playing has been heard on recordings by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Sly Stone, Los Lobos, Bob Welch, and Del Shannon, and on the film soundtracks (Teachers, Moscow on the Hudson, Soul Man).
After moving to Seattle in 1989 Jourard opened a recording studio, has produced and recorded local acts, and became active as an author (Start Your Own Band and The Marty Method), and music educator at schools and through private lessons on keyboard, guitar, drums and saxophone. Jourard’s song “We Breathe The Same Air” was also recently recorded by Graham Nash and appears on Nash’s box-set retrospective.
