Taught by a professional fiber artist who has exhibited at the top tier fine craft shows in the nation, this class will introduce hands-on, modern surface design techniques.
The final project for each student will be a garment, loosely based on a kimono that will hang on the wall in the Cornish gallery during the final exhibition. A few methods to be used are as follows: direct dye application, adhesion of metal leaf (gilding) onto cloth, basic shibori techniques (a Japanese textile art form), piecing and layering of opaque and transparent cloth, and sewing in metal wire to give the fabric structure. We will discuss form, fashion, fiber and learn more about the world of modern textile artists. This is an important element in every fashion designer’s skill set. Many top designers create fabrics that are paired with a specific garment design.

Britt Rynearson
Instructor
Britt Rynearson works as a professional textile artist and fashion designer. Her work is sold in galleries and stores nationwide. She began as a painter, completing a degree in Fine Art at Scripps College, Claremont.
Teaching has been a parallel career to her designing for the last twelve years. In conjunction with selling a line of fashion goods, Britt is developing a line of textiles for commercial and residential interiors.
