In this course, students will delve into the plays of William Shakespeare through the works of Mark Van Doren’s “Shakespeare", Peter Hall’s “Shakespeare’s Advice to the Players”, and Sister Miriam Joseph’s seminal “Shakespeare’s Use of the Arts of Language”. 

Using these thinkers as guides to understanding the themes, performance challenges, and mechanics of Shakespeare’s art students will emerge with informed perspectives on how studying the bard will influence their lives in the theater.

Arthur Allen

Arthur Allen is a Seattle Filmmaker whose debut feature was selected for the US in Progress Program in Paris, 2014. He completed the distinctive Great Books curriculum of St. John’s College, Maryland with emphases in Philosophy, Comparative Literature, and Classical Studies. He has worked as a performer with the 5th Avenue Theater, the Book-It Repertory Theater, Taproot Theater, Wing-It Productions, Seattle Musical Theater, and the Village Theater’s New Works Festival. In 2010 he sailed with the United States Merchant Marine, and in 2012 he represented the US at the Second Baghdad International Translation Conference in Iraq.
