Students retrace traditional painting methods by sketching portraits and still life's with the aid of a camera obscura.

The class will translate the sketches into paintings while developing oil paint handling techniques and visual strategies that enhance this realist approach to rendering. 

Camera obscuras provided.

Joe Park

Joe Park is a Pacific Northwest painter whose solo exhibitions at the Frye Art Museum and the Portland Art Museum have garnered critical acclaim. He has exhibited paintings in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle. Park has taught at Seattle Central Community College, Seattle University, Cornish College of the Arts, and Gage Academy of Art. He holds an MFA from California Institute of the Arts and a BA from Cornish College of the Arts. Park is represented by Rena Bransten Gallery in San Francisco and Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland.
