Working with paper as their core material, students cut, tear, and fold to transform paper into lively relief drawings, sculptures, and three-dimensional installations that play with negative and positive shape, light, shadow, scale, and contrast.
Students will construct small and large scale designs, experimenting with a variety of paper types, tools, and techniques for transforming flat surfaces into inventive image and pattern.

Therese Buchmiller received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her MFA from the California College of the Arts, San Francisco. Her award-winning mixed-media and installation work has been exhibited throughout the Midwest, West Coast, New York, and internationally. Since 2011 she has shown work locally at the Kirkland Art Center, Rock/Dement, Fictillis, and the Cornish College of the Arts, Main Gallery. Between 2002-2008, Buchmiller taught studio art at University of Minnesota, Morris. She has been a visiting artist at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, the California College of the Arts, and Western Washington University. In 2001 Buchmiller helped establish and later taught in the San Francisco Art Institute’s Pre-College Program.
