In this course, students will develop multiple tools for crafting solo plays and performance. Students will be encouraged to use this form to delve deeply into their interests as artists – whether that is in practicing specific skills (vocal presence, movement), developing a piece to perform over and over again, or exploring an issue that is meaningful to them.
Drawing from their own experiences, values and cultural fascinations, students will use dialogue, improvisation, observation, physical characterization and primary source text to craft 2-3 short one-person shows. This course will culminate in a showing of the students’ final pieces. The atmosphere of the classroom will be highly collaborative. Students will be guided on how to give and receive feedback and how to integrate notes and suggestions. There will be a strong (daily) writing component. Students of all disciplines encouraged to enroll.
