Songwriting
Dates: July 19 – July 23
Meeting Times: M – F, 10:00am – 4:30pm
Instructor(s): Marty Jourard, Linda Waterfall
The Cornish summer Songwriting workshop affords talented middle and high school students, ages 14-19, an opportunity to develop their songwriting skills with Cornish music faculty songwriter/composer Linda Waterfall. Students will receive daily instruction and hands-on activities in the five primary components of song composition: melody, harmony, rhythm, form, and lyrics. These activities will be supplemented with tutorials on arranging, performance preparation, and enhancing creativity.
Students should be at an intermediate-level skill on guitar, piano, or another chordal instrument; a basic comfort level in vocalizing ideas and singing within a small group context; and familiarity with the basics of music theory (for example: scales, triads, and basic definitions). Interested students who fall outside these guidelines may be admitted based on interview and permission of the instructor. The week concludes with a special student performance for family and friends scheduled for Friday evening at Cornish’s PONCHO Concert Hall.
Application Deadline: June 30, 2010
