Intro to Music for Film

Course Description
Music for Film affords high school students, ages 14-18, who have little or some basic skills in Garageband and/or Logic an opportunity to write their own soundtracks to Hollywood blockbusters. Students will learn fundamental skills, with particular emphasis on film composing and music production. Students will have a choice of scoring scenes from films ranging from Action/Adventure to Documentaries. A number of guest film composers as well as filmmakers will share with the students their experiences in the industry. The workshop culminates with a Saturday showing for supportive family and friends.


Who should I enroll?
Students do not need to have prior experience although it is helpful to have some basic ability recording audio or MIDI in Apple’s Garageband and/or Logic.

Alek Edmonds

Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Alek Edmonds is the Technical Director at Cornish College’s Music Department. Most recently he worked as Technical Engineer and first-call House Engineer at Paramount Recording in Los Angeles, the largest privately owned studio franchise in North America. Alek has a long list of album credits in all genres of music and over fifteen years of industry experience working as a technical support engineer at Mackie Designs, Warnaco, and London Bridge Studios. He earned his BA from the Evergreen State College.

BC Campbell is a Seattle composer, songwriter and producer focused on composing for film. Since 2012, his work has been presented in national and international film festivals including the Seattle International Film Festival, Sonoma International Film Festival, Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, as well as at The Festival Ciné Alter'Natif in Paris, Corti da Sogni in Ravenna, Italy, the Plymouth Film Festival in England, The Smithsonian in DC and NYC, Durango Film Festival, Stony Brook Film Festival, Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, Southwest American Indian Arts Market, and Seattle’s Local Sightings Film Festival. He will be scoring the upcoming feature film Clearwater, which is in development with the TriBeca Film Institute. His compositions for contemporary dance, theater and performance have been presented in Seattle by On the Boards, Intiman Theater, Cornish College for the Arts, Velocity, and other major music venues. He is a sought after session player on guitar, piano and vocals. He spent his twenties touring the country, recording as a singer/songwriter and playing in various indie bands. BC grew up playing jazz in big bands in Portland Oregon, where he had the honor of being mentored by ‘old timers’ who had created with Billy Holiday.
