Cornish Connection
New Student Orientation Fall 2012
It is our pleasure to be one of the first to welcome you into the Cornish College of the Arts community! Cornish is a vibrant place to aspire toward your dreams, learn more about yourself and your art, create your own perspective of the world around you and bring thoughtful innovation to all you do as a student at Cornish and as a member of this community.
Cornish Connection is the first integral step of many that will help provide you with the information and resources you need in order to be successful here at Cornish as a student, artist and individual. We hope to provide you with ample opportunities to experience and explore Cornish campus life and the surrounding Seattle area. Cornish Connection will also be your first opportunity to join other incoming students in orientation groups led by our Orientation Leaders (OLs). The OLs will help you to build relationships with your peers and make lasting connections with the students who will be with you throughout your collegiate and artistic journey.

Frequently Asked Questions
For New Students, Parents & Families
What is Cornish Connection?
Cornish Connection is a five-day, new student orientation program for all incoming Cornish students.
During Cornish Connection, we hope to provide you with information on all of the resources available to you at Cornish and in the Seattle area while helping you to transition into the Cornish community and prepare you for your first semester at Cornish!
Is it mandatory that I go to Cornish Connection?
Yes, all incoming Cornish students (first year students, transfer students, international students) are required to attend Cornish Connection.
How do I sign-up for Cornish Connection?
If you are an enrolled student entering Cornish College of the Arts in Fall 2012, you are automatically registered to attend Cornish Connection.
What should I bring to Cornish Connection?
Students should wear comfortable clothes, good walking shoes, a rain coat and sun block as necessary. You can bring a pen to take notes with throughout the sessions.
Students will be provided with an orientation schedule and their Orientation resource folder at Orientation Check-in. This will include information on academic departments, places to go in Seattle, and other useful information you will need as a student at Cornish and person living in Seattle.
Can my parents come too?
Parents and families are welcome to participate in specific "family-friendly" sessions on Move-in Day on Wednesday, August 29, 2012.
Are there any events specifically for parents of new students?
Yes. Please join our new president, Dr. Nancy J. Uscher and Provost Lois Harris on August 29th, 2012 for the President's Reception for Parents of New Students.
This will be a festive reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres welcoming parents to the Cornish community. Parents will have the opportunity to meet Cornish's department chairs, administrators and staff and mingle with one another and get a sneak preview of the Cornish Gallery's first exhibit of the year. Parents should watch for their invitation in the mail early in August.
If you are a parent of a new student and have not received an invitation, please contact the Director of Development and Alumni Relations.
So, what am I supposed to do while my parents and family are attending their orientation sessions on August 29?
Throughout the day, you will have the opportunity to move into your residence hall, attend various activities, meet other new students and your Resident Assistant.
During the President's Reception for Parents, we have an event planned just for you sponsored by the Cornish Student Leadership Council (CSLC).
How long can my parents and family stay?
After the President's Reception for Parents on Wednesday, families go out to dinner with their student and then are asked to hug their student goodbye and wish them good luck on their first few days as a new Cornish student/
