Living on campus offers students a unique artistic experience that nurtures creativity, intellectual curiosity and cross departmental collaboration. All new students are required to live on campus and purchase a meal plan for their first academic year. New students will want to complete and submit their housing and meal plan contract as soon as possible, these contracts become available on May 1, 2013. All contracts are due July 23, 2013. For students admitted after July 23, 2013, housing contracts are due two weeks after date of admission.

Housing Packet

Housing packets are physically mailed to all admitted students and available on Compass May 1, 2013. This packet contains:

  • Information including a checklist of everything you’ll need to complete
  • Housing and Meal Plan Contract
  • Housing and Meal Plan Terms and Conditions
  • Immunization Form


For your convenience you can always find additional copies of these forms online using Compass. All housing paperwork and housing deposit are due to housing and residence life by July 23, 2013. Please contact us with any questions.

Roommate Assignment

Residents have the option of mutually selecting each other as roommates for the full term of their contract to do this, both roommates must e-mail housing@cornish.edu stating that they would like to live together. Only mutual roommate requests will be honored. While some students choose to do this, most of our residents are paired by our professional staff based on the information provided by each resident in their housing contract. Roommate assignments will be live and visible on Compass starting August 5, 2013.

Housing Assignment

Housing assignments are made based on the preferences you provide and the spaces we have available. Priority is given to students based on the date Housing and Residence Life receives your housing and meal plan contract - so submit early! Housing assignments will be live and visible on Compass starting August 5, 2013.

The Continuing Student Housing Process

A number of continuing student spaces are available in the residence halls. Midway through spring semester, continuing students are invited to participate in the priority housing preference process. This process gives continuing students priority based on their specific building location, room and type preferences. Continuing student housing paperwork is available at the front desks and on Compass starting April 1, 2013. The priority deadline to ensure the best possible assignment is April 15, 2013.

Summer Housing for Continuing Students

The 8th Avenue Residence Hall is open during the summer months to continuing students. Summer paperwork is available at the front desks and on Compass starting April 1, 2013. The priority deadline to ensure the best possible assignment is April 15, 2013.  This year our summer rate is $2200 for a single room, just $550/month.  If you find yourself a room mate, it is just $1500 or $375/month. No meal plan is required in the summer months however Nellie’s Cafe is open on a summer schedule.

After the priority deadline, continuing students will be able to sign up for housing for the summer or academic year as space permits.

Housing & Meal Plan Exemptions

Exemption paperwork is due to Housing and Residence Life by July 19, 2013 or two weeks after admission for students admitted after July 19, 2013. A new student may apply for a housing and meal plan exemption starting May 1, 2013 if the student meets one or more of the following criteria:

  • Transfer student has completed 30 credits (45 on quarter system) of post secondary coursework (running start credits ineligible) or has lived on campus at another institution for one academic year
  • Student is living in a local residence with parent or legal guardian within 40 miles of campus
  • Student is 21 years of age or older by semester move in date
  • Student is married or in a state-recognized domestic partnership or civil union
  • Student is a parent with dependent child(ren) living in the home
  • Student has a medical necessity
  • Student has extenuating circumstances
