2014 - 2015 with IRS Data Retrieval

Verification Process 2014 – 2015

The Office of Financial Aid will notify you if you are selected for review in the Department of Education standardized verification process. FAFSA applications are compared to IRS data and household information for accuracy.  Annually, one-third of Cornish students are selected. If you are selected, completing verification becomes part of your application process to receive a financial aid package. Remember to promptly complete your file. Some funds are limited and awarded on a first-come first-serve basis.
Estimate packages for incoming students are not a guarantee of aid but an early evaluation of what a package may look like.

IRS Data Retrieval

VERIFICATION USING IRS DATA RETRIEVAL TOOL
Using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when completing the online FAFSA at http://www.fafsa.gov is the best way to ensure an early financial aid package. The student and parent will be asked when completing their respective FAFSA sections if they wish to load their 2013 Tax Return data. If they answer yes and are eligible to transfer data, their tax information will be loaded to answer specific FAFSA questions. They will then need to manually report wages when returning to the FAFSA application. In most cases, the acceptance of data retrieval with the submission of the following documents will complete the verification process:
All W2s for you, your parents or your spouse
Schedules C, D, E, F for you, your parents or your spouse
A completed Verification Worksheet

VERIFICATION NOT USING IRS DATA RETRIEVAL TOOL
If a student or parent elects not to use the tool or is not eligible, the Office of Financial Aid will request a Tax Return Transcript to complete verification. If a student or parent submits an amended tax return 1040X to the IRS, the Office of Financial Aid will request a Tax Return Transcript and a Tax Account Transcript to complete verification. In addition, the following will be required:
All W2s for you, your parents or your spouse
Schedules C, D, E, F for you, your parents or your spouse
A completed Verification Worksheet
Those not filing may be required to obtain a 2013 Free Tax Return Transcript. Read who needs to file at IRS: Publication 501. The Office of Financial Aid will require additional information regarding your support in 2013 for which you will use the Resource Form.
NOTE: After filing your initial FAFSA, refrain from making FAFSA changes unless requested by the Office of Financial Aid. This may help provide earlier financial aid results.
