Leah Snyder

leah_s_125.jpgI have been involved with art throughout my entire life...

What kind of art do you make? What inspires you?

I am inspired by random things: rain, stories, my friends. I love doing printmaking and sculpture. The kind of art I actually make is usually digital images and photography but only for myself.

When in your life did you first become involved in your artistic discipline? What influenced you to become involved in the arts?

I have been involved with art throughout my entire life. I didn't really start working on designing until junior year in highschool, which was when I decided to come here.

What are your current projects?

Making portfolios, posters, and teeshirt design. My main project is trying to complete my homework. I am also trying to find the time to watch a movie.

Where are you from? How is Seattle different?

I am from Tonasket, WA. Never heard of it? What a surprise… Seattle it way bigger and much cooler. It's like, "Yay there is a world out there somewhere!"

Why did you choose to come to Cornish?

Because it's the best.

What has been your experience here?

Homework and more homework. There is also Homework. Ohh and I almost forgot living, being able to walk to a store, and there being people. I love it.

What quirky hobbies do you have?

Interesting choice of words. I play the piano. I also absolutely love to play soccer. That basically sums me up: Art, Soccer and Music.

What do you see yourself doing in 5 years?

5 years… people have plans for five years? I would hope to be working at a small or large firm at that point. I am pretty open to whatever comes up in the next 5 years or so. I'd like a nice car though.

What would you tell a prospective student about Cornish?

Hmm… depends on what kind of student. If they were design, I'd go off on some kind of long-winded explanation on computers, printers, lockers, shuttles, living arrangements, and life.

Life, if you're a design student you won't have one.
Computers are nice, ooh, and you have to have one.
Printers, pretty good system hopefully will be upgraded continuously.
Lockers, They are huge and rock.
Shuttle, Very Useful and never at the right time.
Living arrangements, find an apartment maybe a roommate or two. We have no dorms.

What is your creative process?

Look at a piece or several pieces of white paper, bash my head into the wall until something appears. Either that or go through some precise and long drawn out process of thumbnails and concepts and stuff like that.
