Ruth Marie Tomlinson
I love being present for the learning moment.
Which courses do you teach?
foundations and sculpture
Why do you teach?
I have taught all my adult life in one arena or another because I love being present for the learning moment.
What brought you to Cornish?
Cornish is my first experience teaching in a school where everyone is driven by a desire for art.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
Inspiration slips in when my eyes are open. Observation of anything....bad printing in a newspaper, the turn of an elbow, books staking up in successive colors, a perfectly fit machine part, a conversation, and my own reaction to things.
What drew you to your field?
Who knows what draws you in? You are just there.
Tell us about your creative process:
Creative process? Yipes I feel like a student. I guess Observation, letting things pieces together and translating the combinations into a visual context.
What projects are you currently working on?
An installation for Four Culture. I am continuing work with the hidden messages of hand gestures or finding language in photos rather than text.
What do you do for fun?
Fun? All of the above. And maybe belting out favorite tunes with my sweetie while driving across Montana.
What do you like most about Cornish?
Cornish is the arts and Cornish is family. Its all messy and wonderful.
Anything else you would like to share?
Good grief, that's enough.
