Students Design Innovative Window Displays

Seattle’s trendy Polite Society boutique on First Avenue approached Cornish with a challenge to create an exciting, unconventional holiday window display for their store. The store boasts fashion-forward clothing and accessories for men and women, as well as antique and modern home furnishings from around the world.

Polite Society Window Display

Co-owners Mike Doherty and Eric Akines wanted to work with Cornish students as they wanted a display that was unlike any other in the city. The challenge was taken on by the 3rd year typography class who called the project, Type in 3-D Space. Students visited Polite Society to check out the space and meet the owners and then later presented their ideas and sketches to Doherty and Akines. The Polite Holiday, by Cornish students Tina Newman, Robert McMurray, and Zlata Zubenko was the winning display with its whimsical caveman theme, followed by the 2nd place winner Celebrate, created by Ashley McRae, Daniel Norman and Trina Packard.

The Polite Society was so impressed with the holiday window displays that they have commissioned several Cornish students to design window displays for the boutique this Spring. The project has truly provided excellent community and professional experience to Cornish design students.
