Sheila Daniels, faculty member in the Theater Department at Cornish College of the Arts, has been recently appointed the new Artistic Associate at The Empty Space Theater. Daniels, who has been directing, teaching and acting in Seattle since 1994, will support the artistic mission of the theatre, focusing primarily on new play research and development and artist relations while maintaining her position in the Theater Department at Cornish.
In addition to these responsibilities, Daniels is also the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Baba Yaga Productions, an Artistic Associate at the Capitol Hill Arts Center (CHAC) and also does work with Seattle Children’s Theater. Her directing credits include The Bridge of San Luis Rey (Strawberry Theatre Workshop), Burning Bridget Cleary (Ladykillers), Waiting for Lefty, God’s Country, Arcadia (CHAC), Shock Brigades: Women in Combat, Vaya con Lola (Baba Yaga), Macbeth (Wooden O), The Last State (On the Boards), Anaphylaxis (Throwing Bones - Artistic Pick of 2003 Seattle Fringe Festival), COLD (Tacoma Museum of Glass) and Machinal (A Theater Under the Influence). She also served as Artistic Director of Theater Schmeater where she directed numerous productions, including The Trojan Women, Language of Angels and The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek.
Founded in 1970, The Empty Space Theatre is known for its daring and unconventional theatrical productions. For 36 years, The Empty Space has been a cornerstone of Seattle’s vibrant theatre community, bringing professional quality to alternative voices and building a national reputation for dynamic, cutting-edge productions. The Empty Space Theatre moved into the newly constructed Lee Center for the Arts in February 2006 when it became the theatre-in-residence at Seattle University. This new theater seats 150.
