Cornish Presents April Schedule Includes Jazz, Classical, and World Music

Cornish Presents, a professional music series at Cornish College of the Arts, offers select concerts in jazz, classical, and world music this season at PONCHO Concert Hall, 710 E. Roy St. Seattle, WA 98102. The 2015 Spring Season concludes with the return of the Vijay Iyer Trio on May 9.

Ryan Keberle & Catharsis

Few musicians have managed to navigate the richly varied avenues of New York City's abundant music scene with the same passion and adaptability as trombonist and composer Ryan Keberle. The band comprises some of the most compelling up-and-coming voices in jazz trumpeter Mike Rodriguez, bassist Jorge Roeder, and drummer Eric Doob, and guest vocalist Camila Meza culminating in an approach rich with melodic invention, heavy groove, and a subtle indie rock sensibility.

Gamelan Pacifica presents Nourishment

An audience favorite for more than 30 years, Gamelan Pacifica celebrates the release of its new recording, Nourishment, featuring works by Lou Harrison, Philip Glass, Al. Suwardi, Jessika Kenney, Stephen Fandrich, and Jarrad Powell. Featured on the concert will be a new work by Jessika Kenney, created as part of her recent residency at the Frye Art Museum. Also on the concert will be a piece by renowned composer Bun-Ching Lam.

An Evening With Dawn Clement

Pianist/composer Dawn Clement presents a special concert featuring a set of her new works for string quartet and voice featuring violist Mara Gearman, cellist Paige Stockley, and violinists Mischa Schmidt and Adrianna Hulscher, as well as a set of solo piano improvisations by Clement. An ebullient pianist, a graceful vocalist and a blooming composer, Dawn Clement has gained the respect and adoration of critics, fans and musicians on both coasts and abroad.

Hailed for his innovative and eclectic musical career, guitarist and composer Benjamin Verdery performs at Cornish in conjunction with the 2015 Northwest Guitar Festival. Verdery is artistic director of 92nd Street Y's Art of the Guitar series since 2006, and chair of the guitar department at the Yale University School of Music and artistic director of the bi-annual Yale Guitar Extravaganza since 1985.

Vijay Iyer Trio

Described in The Village Voice as "the most commanding pianist and composer to emerge in recent years," Vijay Iyer brings his outstanding trio - including Marcus Gilmore (drums) and Stephen Crump (bass) - to Seattle once again for this special concert. The performance of Vijay Iyer Trio, presented in collaboration with SF Jazz and Musical Instrument Museum, is supported by Presenter Consortium for Jazz, a program of Chamber Music America funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
