Cornish College of the Arts Faculty Promotions Announced For 2016/17
Earlier this summer, Payne also announced four Cornish College of the Arts faculty promotions. Those promoted were Ellen Boyle, Lisa Norman, Ruth Tomlison, and Tom Varner.
Ellen Boyle and Lisa Norman in the Theater Department both were promoted to the rank of Professor. Boyle has taught at Cornish since 1997 as a teacher of voice, speech, dialects and physical technique. With Lisa Norman, she is a co-founder of Operating Theater, a collective of faculty professionals in residence at Cornish whose mission is to provide a bridge between the classroom and professional theater. Norman has taught at Cornish since 2004. She is a performer, teacher, and coach.
Ruth Tomlinson in the Foundations Program (the first year of study for all students in Art, Design, and Film+Media) has been promoted to the rank of Professor. She has taught at Cornish since 2004. Tomlinson was instrumental in developing the new Foundations curriculum. She currently maintains a studio in Montana, Two Dot Spot, where she works and provides an invitational residency program during the summer months.
Tom Varner in the Music Department has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. He has taught at Cornish since 2009. In addition to teaching, he has a full professional life as a jazz French horn player, composer, and band leader.
