Class of 2019 Showcased In Dance BFA Concert

Sixteen works will be presented over two days, February 16 and 17, at the Cornish Playhouse. The Dance BFA Concert features Dance’s class of 2019 as choreographers and performers in a variety of styles.

February’s Dance BFA Concert always features a wide range of performances prepared by the graduating class in the Dance department. The seniors begin work in the Fall, not only prepping their material for the stage but also working on marketing materials for the show.

This year included a Fall 2018 photoshoot with dance photographer Joseph Lambert outside at the Seattle Art Museum’s Olympic Sculpture Park. With contemporary art in the forefront and the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound forming a backdrop to their publicity photos, arresting images were captured.

Expect even more on the stage at the Cornish Playhouse on February 16 and 17, as sixteen works will be presented. Some are choreographed by the students; others, by invitation, were choreographed on them by faculty or local choreographers.

The film “Manic Mermaids” directed and choreographed by Kelly Goetz will be shown. Dancers featured in this project are Monica Kerr, Alyssa Mastropieri, Brynn Mellon, Reid Rayeld, and Laila Rosen. To further investigate the world between live performance, film, and reality, those involved in the project will do a special presentation at Cornish’s Beebe Building on March 30 at 8:00 p.m.

Eviana Dan, choreographer of the concert’s “intentions be,” and dancers Molly Bantugan, Anna Caffarelli, Hannah Cavallaro, Maia Durphee, Margaux Gex, Crimson Moeller, Alex Opinsky, Corbin Schmidt, Maya Tozcek, Cat Urquhart, and Janae Walla also will present a longer work next month. “A Tender Production” will be held at Raisbeck Performance Hall on March 2 at 7: p.m.
