Saxophonist/composer Jane Ira Bloom is a pioneer in the use of live electronics and movement in jazz, as well as a frequent collaborator with such outstanding jazz and world music artists as Charlie Haden, Ed Blackwell, Kenny Wheeler, Rufus Reid, Bob Brookmeyer, Julian Priester, Jerry Granelli, Min Xiao-Fen, Mark Dresser, Matt Wilson, Bobby Previt, and Fred Hersch. She has composed and performed site-specific works at such diverse venues as the National Air and Space Museum¹s Einstein Planetarium, Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Museum of Modern Arts, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Town Hall, the Kennedy Space Center, the Houston Astrodome, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as well as at clubs and jazz festivals worldwide. Bloom is the recipient of numerous composition and performance grants including a Guggenheim Fellowship in music composition. Winner of the Mary Lou Williams Women In Jazz Award for lifetime service to jazz, the Jazz Journalists Association and Downbeat International Critics Poll for soprano sax, and the International Women in Jazz Masters Award, Bloom was also the first musician ever commissioned by the NASA Art Program and to have an asteroid named in her honor by the International Astronomical Union

A special reunion concert featuring internationally revered
performers, Julian Priester - trombone, Jay Clayton - vocals, Anthony
Cox - bass, and Jerry Granelli - drums.
This stellar ensemble was originally formed at Cornish in the mid-80s when Priester, Clayton and Granelli, along with bassist Gary Peacock, taught side-by-side in the music department. Formed to explore freely improvised music, original compositions and new sounds, Quartett draws from the defining voices of each of its members to create a cohesive sonic narrative. The band released one album entitled, No Secrets, on New Albion Records. Joined by bassist Anthony Cox, Cornish is excited to welcome Quartett back for its first concert in Seattle in 20 years.

cornetist Butch Morris featuring an all-star local ensemble.
Lawrence D. Butch Morris redefines the roles of composer, conductor, and performer. Through Conduction® workshops, Morris engages musicians in the process of composition and creation. The workshops stress ensemble team play, which allows each individual the opportunity to participate in the overall construction of compositional development. It enhances and enriches the ensemble member¹s interpretive skills by strengthening each musician¹s understanding of composition, orchestration and arrangement.
Butch Morris is recognized internationally as a leading innovator in the confluence of jazz, new music, improvisation and contemporary classical music and the principal theorist and practitioner in the evolution of Conduction®. Since 1974, his career has been distinguished by unique and outstanding international contributions to film, theater, dance, television, radio, interdisciplinary collaborations, concerts and recordings. mploying more than 5,000 musicians in 23 countries and 63 cities, Morris has opened the door to a new understanding of musical language. Morris has acted as a resident conductor and lecturer at institutions such as Princeton University, California Institute of the Arts, Yale University, Wesleyan University, New York University, University of Westminster, London, Orchestra della Toscana, Florence, Mito Museum, Mito, Japan, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and many others.
