New Cornish Residence Halls Foster Community Life

Posted Oct 16, 2009

This fall, Cornish opened two converted hotel facilities to provide housing near the downtown campus in Seattle’s Denny Triangle neighborhood. School is now in full swing, and students living in these new facilities have officially gotten their first taste of residential college life.

“We are very proud and pleased with how well the halls are functioning,” says Dean of Student Affairs Jerry Hekkel. “Our resident students are constantly expressing how happy they are living in the halls…the most common response has been “I love it”.  I’ve also talked with and received emails from parents who are very pleased and impressed with the halls, and especially with the friendly, personable and caring Housing & Residence Life staff.  These comments are exactly what we want to hear !”

Cornish strives to give students the skills they need to find their place in the world. The social aspect of the Residence Halls, and their proximity to the campus, facilitate campus access and encourage interactions among peers in different departments. Cornish continues to seek out new ways to provide a valuable college experience for its students; as Jerry Hekkel puts it, “Being a residential campus has created a new sense of community that Cornish hasn’t experienced before.”
