This amazing intersection occurred when Jimmy Fallon welcomed Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard to “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” on October 12, 2012. When Fallon introduced Gibbard’s debut solo album, he showed off the album cover designed by….yes, Cornish alum Drew Hamlet.
“Ben wanted to use this painting by Joan Hiller,” says Drew. “All the type and design elements had to work with that. The album talks about changing as a person over time, so I wanted the design and type to express that same feeling of constant transformation.”
The project was done at Hum Creative, which was started by fellow Cornish alum Kate Harmer (DE ’05), who also taught Typography classes at Cornish last year.
