Art Stops Traffic

Recently, artist trio John Sutton, Ben Beres and Zac Culler created a fascinating new work, “The Island.” Complete with its own artificial palm tree, “The Island” was almost to twenty feet in diameter and floating in Lake Washington just north of the 520 bridge. The three artists, all Cornish College Art Department alumni, were castaways on their own island, appropriately outfitted in tattered suits.Island01.jpg

John Sutton (Art BFA 2002), Ben Beres (Art BFA 2000) and Zac Culler (Art BFA 2000) have been garnering attention and accolades for their installation works, including a residency at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, Nebraska; and most recently, a mobile living room project sponsored by 4Culture. On October 15th, the artist team will be awarded a Stranger Genius Award in the category of visual arts, recognizing the trio for the quality and innovation of their work. A prestigious award it itself, The Stranger Genius Award includes a grant in the amount of $5000.
