Sheila Daniels Is Appointed Artistic Associate at The Empty Space Theater
Sheila Daniels, faculty member in the Theater Department at Cornish College of the Arts, has been recently appointed the new Artistic Associate at The Empty Space Theater. Daniels, who has been directing, teaching and acting in Seattle since 1994, will support the artistic mission of the theatre, focusing primarily on new play research and development and artist relations while maintaining her position in the Theater Department at Cornish.
Cornish Dance Department Invited to Join CODA
The Cornish Dance Department has been invited to join the Council of Dance Administrators (CODA), a prestigious and selective national group of 25 college dance departments that meet annually to discuss issues related to dance in higher education. It was CODA that developed and published Standards for Dance Major Programs in 1979 and these standards were used by the National Association of Schools of Dance in developing accreditation standards in dance.
The Cornish Art Department Presents Art Recess
Beginning Friday, September 29th, the Cornish community is invited to attend a new weekly series presented by the Art Department called Art Recess. Art Recess will take place in room #108 at 1000 Lenora Street building every Friday from 12:15-1 pm and is designed to provide a lunchtime forum to experience the artwork of faculty and staff, as well as a place where groups can discuss art, culture and other topics that seem applicable.
Book-It Theater features Cornish faculty and alum in Broken for You
Book-it Theater in Seattle presents Broken for You, the bestselling first novel by local author and actress and former Cornish faculty member Stephanie Kallos. The performance runs September 22-October 15 and features Cornish faculty member Bill Johns (also Kallos’s husband) and Cornish alum Colin Byrne (TH 03).
Diem Chau, Solo Alumni Exhibition
Cornish College of the Arts presents Bits and Pieces, solo alumni exhibition featuring Diem Chau September 21-October 20, 2006 at the Cornish Main Gallery. A graduate from Cornish College of the Arts in 2002, Chau considers herself an artist whose medium is stories. And, embedded in these stories are cultural connections to the past and an occasional escape from reality. She believes that each story is a thread that connects us to each other, the storyteller holding one end and the audience the other.
