Cornish Faculty Members Amy Thone and Greg Carter Receive Stranger Genius Awards
Two Cornish faculty members have been honored with Stranger Genius Awards this year. Theater faculty member Amy Thone (Theater) was honored with a 2007 Genius Award for Performance, and Greg Carter (Performance Production) of Strawberry Theater Workshop, was honored with a 2007 Genius Award as an organization. Both awardees were notified via cake over the summer, and will be celebrated at the annual Stranger Genius Awards taking place Friday, September 14th at the Central Library.
Every fall since 2003, The Stranger has given a check for $5,000 and promotional attention to a filmmaker, a writer, a visual artist, a theater artist, and an arts organization making startling, original work. There is no application process - a panel of Stranger editors and critics "descends into a cave and conducts their deliberations by candlelight." The 2007 Stranger Genius Awards issue, with profiles of this year's winners, hits streets September 13. Other geniuses honored this year include filmmaker Linas Phillips, poet Heather McHugh, and visual artist Alex Schweder. Kudos to Cornish affiliates and past Stranger Genius Award honorees, Michele Miller (Dance), Gabriel Baron (TH '00), John Sutton (AR '02), Ben Beres (AR '00), Zac Culler (AR '00).
