Cornish’s Karen Gjelsteen Chosen for Gregory Falls Achievement Award

Congratulations to Cornish faculty member Karen Gjelsteen who has been chosen for the 2007 Gregory A. Falls Sustained Achievement Award presented by Theatre Puget Sound. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the award that honors an individual (or individuals) who have devoted time, energy and talent to Seattle’s theatre community and whose careers have had an influence on local and national theatre.

James & Sherry Raisbeck Honored with 2007 First Citizen Award

Longtime supporters of Cornish College of the Arts, James and Sherry Raisbeck will receive the prestigious 69th First Citizen Award for their philanthropic efforts on May 31, 2007.

The Seattle First Citizen Award dates back to 1939, and is given annually by the Seattle-King County Association of Realtors. It is intended to honor individuals and families that have made notable contributions to Seattle’s civic life. Former recipients include Dale Chihuly, Jeffrey and Susan Brotman, Herb Bridge, Phil Smart, Sr., Jack Benaroya, Dr. Lester Sauvage, Dan and Nancy Evans, and the Gates Family.

Cornish Recognizes Carver Gayton, PhD with 2007 Honorary Degree

Carver Gayton, PhD will receive an Honorary Degree from Cornish College of the Arts, to be presented at the Cornish Commencement Ceremony on May 15, 2007. “I have long admired the wonderful contributions Cornish has made to the arts community of the Seattle area”, Gayton writes. “My father, son and cousin were direct beneficiaries of Cornish programs and I’m deeply honored to have been selected as the recipient of this year’s Honorary Degree.” In addition to receiving this recognition, Dr. Gayton will also address the Class of 2007 as the commencement speaker.

Joseph and Maureen Brotherton Give $125,000 for Scholarship Support

Longtime Cornish College of the Arts trustee Joseph Brotherton and his wife Maureen recently established the Brotherton Scholarship in Law, Business, the Arts and Public Service. Their gift of $125,000 will fund scholarships at five institutions over the next five years. Cornish College of the Arts, Seattle University School of Business, University of Washington School of Business, University of Washington Law School Foundation and Teens in Public Service are the recipients of this unique support.

Cornish Interior Design Students Win National Design Competition

Cornish Design students Jamie Drzayich (Design ‘08) and Aireen Wong (Design ‘08) recently placed 1st and 2nd in the student category of the Kimball Office Delano and Adagiato Design Challenge, a national design competition. Over 100 designers submitted entries by mail into the competition.
