Diem Chau, Solo Alumni Exhibition
Cornish College of the Arts presents Bits and Pieces, solo alumni exhibition featuring Diem Chau September 21-October 20, 2006 at the Cornish Main Gallery. A graduate from Cornish College of the Arts in 2002, Chau considers herself an artist whose medium is stories. And, embedded in these stories are cultural connections to the past and an occasional escape from reality. She believes that each story is a thread that connects us to each other, the storyteller holding one end and the audience the other.
Of Bits and Pieces, Chau writes, "My work evolves from my experiences and much of my experiences have existed in between defined realms. I grew up always in between. I was Chinese in Vietnam, Asian in America, and Americanized within my Asian family. I've come to understand the world in bits and pieces and whatever stands out I just make sense of along the way."
Diem Chau is the recipient of an Artist Trust GAP Grant and served as the PONCHO Artist in Residence at Pratt Fine Arts Center. Her work has been recently exhibited at Howard House, Richard Hugo House and Bumbershoot.
Cornish Main Gallery is located at 1000 Lenora Street in Seattle. Hours are Monday-Friday, 9 am - 4 pm. Weekends and evenings by appointment only (206) 726-5142.
