Book-It Theater features Cornish faculty and alum in Broken for You

broken_for_you.jpgBook-it Theater in Seattle presents Broken for You, the bestselling first novel by local author and actress and former Cornish faculty member Stephanie Kallos. The performance runs September 22-October 15 and features Cornish faculty member Bill Johns (also Kallos's husband) and Cornish alum Colin Byrne (TH 03).

The story is set in Seattle and reveals how the lives of two broken women, the ailing 70 year old Margaret Hughes and the young quirky Wanda, are both transformed when Margaret rents a room to Wanda in her Capitol Hill Mansion. Their lives quickly mingle and a new form of family develops. The novel has been described as funny, heartbreaking and popping with eccentric and irresistible characters.

Published by Grove Press, Broken for You, has received national recognition and praise as critics have compared Kallos to famed novelists Margaret Atwood and Anne Tyler. Stevie_Kallos.jpgNovelist Sue Monk Kidd (Secret Life of Bees) also boosted its visibility when she chose Broken for You as the book club pick on NBC's Today Show. The novel has also won a Washington State Book Award, in addition to other honors.
