Cornish Welcomes Kazue Sawai from Japan
Considered the most dynamic and innovative performer on the koto today, Kazue who is on tour from Japan, will offer a special performance on September 29 as part of the Cornish Music Series. Kazue is known for her compelling performances of both traditional and contemporary works on the standard 13-string koto and the 17-string bass koto.
She began her studies at the age of eight with Michio Miyagi and graduated from Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music. Since 1978, she has toured widely as soloist, with her Koto Ensemble and in joint recitals with Tadao Sawai, pianist Aki Takahashi, and percussionist Sumire Yoshihara, appearing in concerts in Japan, Brazil, France, Germany, England, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Australia and the United States. This is sure to be a spectacular and memorable performance and all are invited to attend.
