The Mobius Trio

The Living Earth Show + the Mobius Trio

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 8:00 pm
PONCHO Hall, 710 East Roy Street, Seattle, WA

Andrew Meyerson (percussion) and Travis Andrews (guitar) are The Living Earth Show, a San Fransisco-based duo specializing in electro-accoustic chamber music. The Mobius Trio (Robert Nance, Mason Fish and Matthew Holmes-Linder ) is a contemporary classical guitar trio. Come hear both, in a concert of works newly commissioned by both ensembles.
Guitarist Travis Andrews and percussionist Andrew Meyerson are dragging chamber music kicking and screaming into the future as The Living Earth Show, a San Francisco-based classical duo, presenting dynamic performances of amplified, electro-acoustic contemporary chamber music. The Living Earth Show’s upcoming season includes performances of works written for the group by such composers as Samuel Carl Adams, Timo Andres, Adrian Knight, Luciano Chessa, Dan Becker, Chris Cerrone, Nick Vasallo, Andy Akiho, Ken Ueno, Jon Russell, and Damon Waitkus. The season will also feature the United States premiere of Brian Ferneyhough’s Renvoi/Shards, composed in 2008 for quartertone vibraphone and quartertone electric guitar. Also in the works is a new arrangement of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring for guitar, percussion, and two bass clarinets by Jon Russell to be performed alongside bass clarinet duo Sqwonk. The Living Earth Show has been featured on numerous festivals in the Bay Area including Garden of Memory, Hot Air Music Festival, Switchboard Music Festival, and Tangents New Music series. When not performing as The Living Earth Show, Andrew and Travis are members of The Dumpy Broads, the backing band for the oft-pantsless electro-pop sensation Tim Carr, and comprise two thirds of avant-metal power trio Freighter. The Living Earth Show is a fiscally-sponsored affiliate of the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music.

Mobius Trio was formed in 2010 by guitarists Robert Nance, Mason Fish and Matthew Holmes-Linder while studying at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Dedicated to performing new music and expanding the guitar chamber repertoire, the Trio has already collaborated with several up-and-coming and established composers. In December 2010 they premiered six pieces in the Conservatory’s Doublespeak Project, a festival of new guitar works. The trio performed at Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center last April.

Robert Nance holds an M.M. from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, having studied with David Tanenbaum. He also holds a B.A. from New York University and has studied with Sergio Assad, Jorge Caballero and Sharon Isbin. In addition to classical, Nance has extensively studied jazz and electronic music. He is also heavily involved in composing and arranging music for Mobius Trio and other outlets. Mr. Nance has appeared on stages throughout the US and Europe, including Rome, Florence, Denmark, Cologne and Amsterdam. He currently plays guitars by Stephan Connor and Thomas Fredholm.

Mason Fish holds an M.M. in guitar performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, having studied with Sergio Assad. Fish also received a B.M. and a performance certificate from the Eastman School of Music. He has participated in the Aspen Music Festival and School as well as the National Guitar workshop in Connecticut, taking masterclasses with artists including the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Roland Dyens, Sharon Isbin, Eliot Fisk, David Russell, and Paul O’Dette. In 2007, a recording of his appearance on National Public Radio’s From the Top was featured in the HBO documentary The Gates by Antonio Ferrera. In 2008 he won the Eastman Guitar Concerto Competition which followed with a performance of Manuel Ponce’s Concierto del Sur. Most recently, Fish has become active in San Francisco’s new music scene, performing new works with the San Francisco Guitar Quartet and collaborating with several Bay Area composers.
