at MASS MoCA
July 11-31, 2011

The Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival at MASS MoCA (the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art) is dedicated entirely to adventurous contemporary music. We will write it. We will perform it. We will think about it and we will talk about it. We will spend three weeks immersed in recent music that has changed the world. Available studies include Balinese music workshops, improvisation, as well as performance coaching, master classes, music business seminars and more. Composers will have their works performed. Players will perform publicly in ensembles sitting alongside their teachers. There are daily performances in the museum galleries, free with museum admission. And the residency concludes with a six-hour blow-out Marathon Concert featuring performances by the student/faculty ensembles.

Musicians and other entertainers interested in playing at the seven Seattle Neighborhood Farmers Markets (Broadway, Columbia City, Lake City, Magnolia, U-District, West Seattle, Phinney):

If you are a musician interested in performing at any of our seven farmers markets, please contact us via email or phone (nfma@seattlefarmersmarkets.org or 206-632-5234) and if possible provide us with a sound sample or link.

We schedule musicians for all dates when we do not have cooking demos or other events scheduled. We love all kinds of music, especially upbeat and family friendly. (We have everything from classical quartets to bluegrass to African kora to accordians to kids’ sing-a-longs – shoppers love to tip and musicians frequently make contacts for other performing opportunities.) We have several guidelines to keep in mind: music is kept at a volume that does not to disturb the surrounding neighborhood (acoustic is preferred, but a little amplification can be accomodated); performers play for tips only; we do not provide any equipment other than a canopy to play under and a scheduled time/date for you to play.

For dates and hours of our markets, see http://www.seattlefarmersmarkets.org (Broadway, Columbia City, Lake City, Magnolia, U-District, West Seattle, Phinney)

The Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance is a community-based, non-profit (501 (c) 3 organization that operates seven farmers/food only markets in Seattle. The NFMA is dedicated to preserving local agriculture and educating consumers about the benefits of supporting local farms and enjoying local farm products.
