Paul de Barros is the popular music editor at The Seattle Times and has covered jazz for the Seattle Times and Down Beat magazine since 1982. Adjunct music professor at the University of Washington, Seattle Pacific University and Cornish College of the Arts, he is the founder of the Seattle jazz support organization, Earshot Jazz, and served as Program Director of Northwest Folklife from 1991-96. A 2003-04 fellow in the National Arts Journalism Program, de Barros has written for the San Francisco Chronicle, Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer and Los Angeles Times. In 1993, his jazz history, Jackson Street After Hours: The Roots of Jazz in Seattle, won the Governor’s Writers Award. His book Shall We Play That One Together? The Life and Art of Jazz Piano Legend Marian McPartland was published in 2012 by St. Martin’s Press.
