A native of Los Angeles, Kelly Harland’s musical career began with singing standards in a jazz trio in clubs and concerts. She then gravitated to the recording studio performing as a studio background vocalist for major pop and R&B artists including the Beach Boys, Ray Charles and Etta James; she also lent her voice to hundreds of local and national radio and television advertisements. Her work in popular music includes stints as the founding member of the pop/rock band Lazy Racer with whom she recorded two albums of original material on A&M Records produced by the noted British producer Glyn Johns. She also recorded a solo record for Epic Records, Kelly Harland, produced by Grammy winner Michael Omartian. More recently, she has released a number of jazz CDs on Origin Records including American Songs, Twelve Times Romance, and Long Ago and Far Away: Songs of Jerome Kern, featuring pianist Bill Mays and bassist Chuck Deardorf.
