The son of professional musicians, Hans Teuber has spent his entire life making music. In South Carolina Teuber grew up singing in his mother’s church choir, playing in bands and orchestras, as well as jazz and R&B groups. As a youngster he performed with Dizzy Gillespie and local be-bop, funk, and jazz artists.
Teuber left South Carolina in the mid 1980s and toured extensively with jazz pianist Buddy Greco. He made Seattle his home in 1988. Since then he has recorded and performed with Julian Priester, Bill Frisell, Wayne Horvitz, Robin Holcomb, Chuck Deardorf, Dave Peterson, Jovino Santos Neto‘s Quinteto, and Pearl Jam, among others. In New York, Teuber has recorded with Kendra Shank, Frank Kimbrough, Jeff Johnson, Victor Lewis, Joe Locke, Billy Mintz, Peck Allmond, and trumpeter Todd Horton’s Whatsa. He also spent three years on the road and in the studio recording with songwriter Ani DiFranco culminating with a European tour opening for Maceo Parker.
Teuber is currently performing in Seattle with Teatro Zinzanni, Stone Gossards’ Hank Williams Choir, and his own trio. He has released two CDs under his own name, Lucky on Origin Arts and Looky on Jackson Street Records. Teuber can also be heard on the Deardorf/Peterson project Portal and bassist Jeff Johnson’s recent release Tall Stranger/ both on the Origin label.
